Today is day 4 (Letter D) in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge and our title today is DIY Spring Decor from the Dollar Store.
I’ve had a dollar store idea in my head for awhile now. I shop the dollar store each season for seasonal and holiday decorations to help add some basic decor to our life and our home. We have a fireplace mantle that I love to decorate for the season or holiday, because it’s easy and looks great.
My style is pretty basic and simple, so often all I need is a few items to make a subtle difference.
So where do I shop for my DIY Spring Decor?
- Dollar Tree
- Deals
- Target Dollar Spot
Those are probably my three favorites.
My Christmas mantle came almost entirely from the Target Dollar Spot with a couple of $3 items, one $5 item and one $10 item.
My whole mantle came together with about $50 total including pieces I had before and a few things I bought placed in other spots throughout my home, like a bookshelf I have.
What I love about this decor is that it is inexpensive, can be stored or swapped out fairly easily and can be used year after year, even as I add new items.
So let’s get started on those DIY Spring Decor ideas.
DIY Spring Decor: Dollar Store Flowers & Vases
An easy decor idea, flowers in a vase can add a lot to your decor.
Most dollar stores have a craft aisle or a place in the store where they have sprigs of flowers.
A couple of them can fill a vase and add some color for the season. And when choosing a vase, think outside the box.
The green “vase” in the photo is actually a drinking glass of some sort. So don’t skip the dish aisle because you can find bowls, pots and glasses that can double as a vase.
The craft aisle at our local Dollar Tree had a nice size bag of those green sea glass vase fillers so I purchased two and filled up my vases to keep the flower sprigs in place.
Super easy idea and adds some beautiful color and something seasonal to your decor.
For Christmas swap out the flowers for sprigs of pointsettia‘s – mums and even leaf sprigs look pretty in fall – you can use fake berries or pine cones to fill for winter/Christmas and corn kernels or even crumbled dried leaves for Fall.
DIY Spring Decor: Dollar Store Frames
Dollar store frames are a strange bunch. Sometimes you will find some that are already decorated. Bring them home, insert a photo and voila, instant decor.
But sometimes you can purchase them plain, no matter the color, and paint them to match your decor.
Leave as is, or embellish with ribbons, buttons or even little metal charms which you can sometimes find in the craft section or even on other items in the store.
This little charm was attached to a candle holder that had seen better days. I loved the charm, so I brought it home (and got it for less than a dollar because it was damaged.). Attached it to the frame and I love it!
DIY Spring Decor: Glass Bottles, Candle Holders, etc.
I love glass bottles in all shapes and sizes. The dollar stores often have different colors and unique shapes of glass bottles.
I picked these bottles (pictured), and they actually had root beer inside originally. My kids drank the soda and I got the bottles. A Twofer! haha
We simply picked up some craft items from the craft section – jute, paper flowers and little brads that served as the center of the flower. We also found some twill ribbon.
We love how these look and they hold a single flower or a very small bunch. We had tulips in them recently, and they actually looked very pretty. So pretty our neighbor commented and asked where we bought them.
I thought she meant the tulips. She meant the bottles. *grin*
So there are a couple of fun and creative ideas to do with Dollar Store Decor. We will be showing off more easy decor crafts that are inexpensive, very soon!
